Jan 2009: A million transient bulbs illuminate the Opera House (left horizon), the Harbor Bridge (right horizon) empties out a waterfall of fire, the Pacific Ocean waters reflect a flowering sky, and the boat-dwellers cruise into 2009.
May 2008: Keeping out evil seems to be an Asia-wide euphemism for religious ceremony involving burning incense. Burning juniper leaves and branches is a common practice amongst both Hindus and Buddhists in the Himalayas. Here, we see the juniper pot hanging at the doorstep of a Sherpa.

Pink Floyd's experiments with technology took a new turn with this album, and the amphitheater of Pompeii was home to a few of these recordings. Echoes, arguably the best psychedelic number in the history of music, haunted the brain as we stepped into this place that was buried under the looming shadow of Mt Vesuvius (left top) for 17 centuries before seeing light of day.
Oct 2007: Smooth, serene, aloof and graceful existence above the surface. Hot, bubbling, perpetual and monstrous chaos below the surface. We stand on 17 million years of cataclysmic geological changes and find serenity. We stare at the ball of fire 100 million miles away and find peace. This lonely bush vegetating on the grand prismatic plateau reflects this irony, or should we say the plateau reflects its irony.
Oct 2007: Yellowstone National Park has 15 miles of board-walks providing up, close and personal access to geothermal features. As the land burns out at dusk, you fade away into the steam. Come take a walk through wonderland. Come On-Board.
Oct 2007: Thermophiles are microscopic masochists. They thrive in extreme heat conditions. While yesterday's post had bacteria with chlorophyll-rich pigments, these are fat with carotenoid. The pigment concentrations change with temperature, and therefore season.
