Feb 2007: Ostrich years refer to the times when our world leaders choose to disregard larger and real issues, and instead bury their heads (like ostriches) in the sand of our times by focusing on wasteful politics and sensational trivialities. Men have felt for two decades now that we live in such times. Here I sneak up to take a closer look at an Ostrich ear. Looks dirty, smelly and makes your hair stand behind your ears!

Addendum: As Rohit corrects me, this is a Rhea, not an Ostrich. Do rheas bury their head in the sand? Wait a minute, it feels nice and warm down here!

Feb 2007: This one picked out of thin air too. This picture of a white spathiphyllum with dark wood in the background has not been composed in an artificial setting or been subject to any post-processing. Imagine everything outside of this zoomed-in shot as green (shrubs), brown (wood) and blue (air), none of which is evident in this shot. The sun was not in sight except on this flower, as if shining a spotlight on it to get it noticed. Am I overselling this one? :-)

Feb 2007: Singapore bags the top award in bird management worldwide. The Jurong Bird Park is an epitome of human control over nature. The world's largest bird park (number of bird species) is also home home to the tallest man-made waterfall. This is a view of the Swan Lake.
